Green Tea Powder Recipes

Green tea can be a useful part of our daily life – it can be enjoyed for its soothing effect, and it can be used as a herb in savory dishes and desserts to make full use of its distinctive flavor and aroma.

Here are a few recipes for drinks and dishes that incorporate green tea powder as an ingredient.

Matcha and Banana Shake

1 tsp matcha powder
1 cup milk
1 banana
honey to taste

1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender to make this breakfast drink.
2. Add ice to taste.

Salty Dog Matcha

Juice of half a grapefruit
2 Tbsp vodka, or to taste
1/3 tsp salt
3-4 ice cubes
½ tsp matcha powder
1. Squeeze the grapefruit to extract the juice. Moisten the rim of a glass with the rind and dip rim n salt. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
2. Place the grapefruit juice, vodka, and matcha in a cocktail shaker, and shake until well mixed.
3. Pour over the ice cubes and serve immediately.

Green Tea Omelet (or Sandwich)

1 medium potato
3 oz sausages
vegetable oil for frying
1 oz cheese, any kind
4 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp sencha powder
salt & pepper to taste
2 Tbsp butter
4-8 cherry tomatoes
a few leaves of fresh mint, fresh basil, or any other herb

Matcha Sauce

1 tsp matcha powder + 1 Tbsp warm milk
4 Tbsp mayonnaise
2 Tbsp plain yogurt

1. Cut the potato into ½-inch cubes and cook 2 minutes in a microwave oven until soft. Set aside.
2. Cut the sausages into ½-inch segments. Pour a little oil in a fry pan and fry sausages over low to medium heat until cooked. Set aside.
3. Cut the cheese into ½-inch cubes
4. Beat the eggs. Add the milk and sencha tea powder, season with salt and pepper, and mix well. Combine the potato, sausages, and cheese with the eggs.
5. Heat the butter in a fry pan. Over medium-high heat cook the eggs, quickly, stirring all the time. Shape into an omelet and put on a serving dish.
6. Make the matcha sauce by mixing matcha and warm milk and stirring until the paste becomes smooth.
7. Combine the mayonnaise and the yogurt, and add the matcha paste
8. Pour the sauce over the omelet and serve with cherry tomatoes and any fresh herbs.

Salmon and Sencha Pie

2 salmon steaks
salt to taste
2 Tbsp white wine
2 frozen pie sheets
2 tsp sencha powder
1 egg, white and yolk separated

1. Cut the salmon steaks in two to make four portions, season with salt, and leave for 10 minutes.
2. Put the salmon in a nonstick fry pan. Over high heat add the wine, cover immediately with a lid, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove the skin if you wish.
3. Preheat the oven to 400Õ F
4. Roll out the pie sheets and cut into 4 strips, each measuring 5 x 10 inch. Place a piece of salmon to one side of each sheet and sprinkle some sencha on top. Brush on a little egg white along the edges of the sheet and fold the other side of the pie sheet over the fish. Seal the edges by pressing firmly so they stick together. You can shape the pie into a fish and decorate the surface with a fish-scale pattern.
5. Add a little water to the egg yolk and brush over the pastry. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until brown.
